Amelia Earhart – Historical Research Project
Women’s History Month



I.     Thesis Statement – An analysis of Amelia Earhart according to her youth, success, and failure will illustrate to the reader her significance so they will be away of her importance.



II.     Research Questions –

•     Where was Amelia Earhart born?
•     When was she born?
•     What was her childhood like?
•     What interests did she have growing up?
•     What were her parents like?
•     When was she first interested in aviation?
•     When did she learn to fly?
•     Where did she learn to fly?
•     What prompted her to try to fly around the world?
•     When did she attempt to fly around the world?



III.     Planning, Outlining –

1.     Go to library with class
•     Conduct Research
•     Get information from at least three resources
2.     Paraphrase information into notes
3.     Make source cards and a Works Cited page
4.     Prepare an oral presentation with notes and props
5.     Give oral presentation with enthusiasm



Summary Describing the Process

In completing this project, my first step was to choose a topic. I chose Amelia Earhart because I wanted to learn more about her. Then with my English class, I went to the school library to conduct research and get information from at least three resources (internet, book, and encyclopedia). I then paraphrased this information into notes. I also made source cards and a Works Cited page for my sources using the MLA style. Last, I used my notes to prepare an oral presentation.
