Being a Successfull Showman

     Showing lambs is a talent that you don't get over night. Its something that

can take months or even years to successfully accomplish. It came to me very

easily after my third year of being in 4-H. In order to be a good showman, one

must first remember that having a 4-H project is a very big responsibility.

Responsibilities include; feeding, watering, washing, and training your

animal. All this should be done daily. The more that the animal is around

people and worked with, the easier it can be to shown. By working with your

animal, you can accquire it to be halter broke, taught to break, and to set

up correctly. There is a certain grace that one must have as well. When it comes

time to take the animal to the show ring, the handler must have a patience and

focus to place high. To finally be a successfull showman, being a good

sport plays in it a great deal. Always congratulate the winner and the other

showman, they all worked just as hard. Helping others, and newcomers is always

a plus, it will show that you are in it to make the best out of everyone. The

biggest thing to remember is younger kids look up to the older showman that

place well, and the ones that will go out of their way to help someone else. That is

what makes a successfull showman.
