Macbeth is a popular play written by William Shakespeare, which is a

tragedy. In order for Macbeth to be crowned king, King Duncan would have to die.

There are two main characters in the play that want the power from Duncan and are too

anxious to wait. Those two characters are Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, Lady Macbeth

was the one who came up with the ideas and schemes to kill King Duncan. Whenever

Macbeth would be unsuccessful through the process of killing Duncan, she would back

him up. Although Macbeth wanted to get out of murdering Duncan he couldn’t. To

make Macbeth kill Duncan Lady Macbeth had to constantly manipulated Macbeth.

Duncan is Macbeth’s cousin so it would be harder for Macbeth to stab him to death while

he’s sleeping.



     When Macbeth sent Lady Macbeth a letter saying that Duncan was going to stay

with them for the night and then leave the next morning, she was already starting to plan

out his murder. Through the process of killing Duncan, there would always be something

that Macbeth would not do right, and so Lady Macbeth would have to do it over. In (2.2

62-64) Lady Macbeth says, “why did you bring these daggers from this place? They must

lie there, go carry then and smear the sleepy grooms with blood.” Then again in (2.2 65-

67) Macbeth reacted “I’ll go no more, I am afraid to think what I have done look on’t

again I dare not.” When Macbeth killed Duncan, he forgot to leave the daggers by the

drunken chamberlains, he was already regretting killing Duncan. When he returned to

the castle, Lady Macbeth was surprised to see him holding the bloody daggers. Afterward

when Macbeth refused to bring the two bloody daggers back; Lady Macbeth took them

out of his hands and went to the chamber where Duncan laid dead. When Lady Macbeth

came back into the castle she says, (2.2 80-86) “My hands are of your color, but I shame

to wear a heart so white. I hear a knocking at the south entry retire we to our chambers.

A little water clears us of this deed: how simple is it then.” When she returned from the

chamber saying that her hands or the same color as. I’m covered in the same blood as

yours are. Someone is coming let us get to our chamber and pretend like we were

sleeping, we’ll wash our hands with water and with that done the deed is done, we don’t

have to worry about it any longer.

     
     While reading the play, Lady Macbeth seems to be a more evil character than

Macbeth is. In (1.7 49-51) Macbeth is saying, “Prithee, peace, I dear do all that may

become a man, who dears do more is none.” He doesn’t want to kill Duncan anymore, he

doesn’t care if it will make him more of a man than he already is. Then in (1.7 53-56),

Lady Macbeth manipulate him by saying, “what beast was it then that made you break

this enterprise to me? When you durst do it, then you were a man, and to be more than

what you were, you would be so much more the man.” She wants to know why Macbeth

wants to back out after they made a plan and it’s ready to go. You should be able to this

without any problems, but if you do this you would become a stronger man than you are

now. “But what if we fail?” (1.7 65). “We fail! but screw your courage to the sticking

place and we will not fail. Macbeth is saying that what if we fail? what if I fail? what if I

get caught? what if the chamberlains aren’t drunk enough? But that won’t happen just do

what we have been planning and we will not fail. When you have finished killing Duncan

then you must smear the chamberlains with his blood and keep the daggers by there side

to make it seems that they have done it. if you can do that, we won’t fail, I will make

sure there drunk enough and you just do the rest, no one will suspect us. Lady Macbeth

manipulated Macbeth to go on with the plan, so that he would be more of a man than he

is now.


     The difference among Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, is that Macbeth is willing to
     
wait patiently for the crown and Lady Macbeth is anxious to get it. As I stated in my

introduction Lady Macbeth had to continuously manipulate Macbeth to kill Duncan

because he didn’t want to do it anymore. Lady Macbeth said that all he had to do was to

stab Duncan when he is asleep and she’ll make sure that the chamberlains are too drunk

think and see anything. Lady Macbeth was the one who came up with the schemes and

plans to kill Duncan. The way that Lady Macbeth is more ambitious than Macbeth is

because she would do anything to get power, even murdering a family member.

than Macbeth himself. Lady Macbeth would back up Macbeth for whenever he

made a mistake. Even when Macbeth refused to kill Duncan, Lady Macbeth had to

constantly manipulate Macbeth. Saying how he would become a stronger man if he was

to kill Duncan.
