Much to the dismay of our web server, we got linked to from MetaFilter.com. To answer some of the common concerns and questions people posted:

Slashdoc does offer its content for web crawlers to freely index. This used to be a closed-off members-only database hosted at a different domain (see our about page for more details) for several years, but now we feel it is better to have the information freely available. We currently do not have all the documents indexed by all search engines, but we are working towards that goal by using new technologies such as Google SiteMaps.

Although it may seem this site encourages plagiarism, that is not true since all the content is indexed by search engines. In fact, Slashdoc works perfectly well with plagiarism-detection services like MyDropBox.com.

We do not publicly give out traffic details, but we get several orders of magnitude more visitors than 100/day .

For example, you can see that Brave New World deals with similar themes as 1984 and Fahrenheit 451. I hope this leads to more stickiness and more exploration of the site by users.

A big Web 2.0 shot in the arm for Slashdoc today was delivered with the long-awaited tagging feature. Actually I had no interest in doing this originally, but then thought about it and realized just how ridiculously easy it would be to implement. I’m sure there are even pre-written scripts that do this now, but it’s just a lot more fun to do by yourself. There might be more to come including, possibly, tag lists for each individual user.
