UpDatabase.com debuted in the summer of 2000.

Slashdoc is essentially a generic content submission system, accepting almost any type of content. Although established in it's current incarnation in October 2005, Slashdoc has a long history.

The original site was called A+ Essays and debuted in 1998. Content could be submitted by e-mail and would be posted online by the webmaster using plain HTML files. In 2000, after having a summer internship which involved using Perl, the site was rewritten by the original webmaster to be dynamic and content submission/organization was fully automated. Essentially it was a database developed from scratch. It was also rebranded and relaunched under the domain UpDatabase.com (site is no longer active and the domain was taken over by another party).

Slashdoc combines the vast database of content from the two older sites with the latest modern technologies such as AJAX to provide a whole new experience that is focused on making your information free and valuable.
